The San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative (SATAI) presented AT&T with the organization’s “Technology Hero Award” during the third annual “Stars of Innovation Banquet” on Friday, April 4, 2008. During the ceremony, Dr. G.P. Singh, founder of Karta Technologies, Inc., Dr. Paul Castella, former President and CFO of CardioSpectra, Inc., and Dr. Todd Fruchterman, Senior VP of Research and Development and Chief Technology Officer at KCI, were inducted into SATAI’s Hall of Fame and Technology Superstars Awards were presented to Denim Group, Ltd, MedSignals Corp, and Seno Medical Instruments, Inc. The chairman of the banquet was last year’s Technology Hero, David Spencer, President and CEO of Mandelbrot Ventures, Inc. and one of SATAI’s founders.

“SATAI is proud to recognize AT&T for its entire, innovative body of work – everything from its strategic mergers and acquisitions to delivering connectivity and mobility to customers and helping companies compete globally,” said SATAI Chairman Bruce Barshop, President of Barshop Ventures, LLC.

“We are also recognizing San Antonio-based AT&T for their advanced products and services like iPhone and U-verse, their corporate philanthropy, and for their commitment to San Antonio and the community as its headquarters location,” said SATAI President and CEO Jim Poage. AT&T was recently named by Fortune Magazine as America’s Most Admired Telecommunications Company, an honor it has held in 10 of the past 13 years. Accepting the award on behalf of AT&T was William L. Smith, President of Local Network Services. Smith is responsible for all network-related operations across the company’s 22-state local phone service footprint, including construction and engineering, installation and maintenance, and U-verse field operations.
